Free and funded training in Essex

Thinking about learning something new can feel like a big step.
Maybe you want to move into a different job, or you would like to feel more confident in what you already do, or maybe you are not quite sure yet. You just know you want something to change.
The good news is that there is a wide range of free and funded training available across Essex. It is designed to be flexible, practical, and easy to fit around your life.
Not sure what you need? Start with Connect to Work.
Sometimes the most helpful thing is not a course, it is having someone talk things through with you and help you make sense of your options. That is where Connect to Work comes in.
Connect to Work is a free programme that offers one-to-one support if you are out of work or finding it difficult to stay employed. You will be matched with a dedicated key worker who works with you to build confidence, explore your options, and take practical steps towards a job.
That could include support with CVs, applications, interviews, and even wellbeing. Everything is shaped around you and your situation.
If you are thinking “I just need someone to help me get started”, this is the right place.
Want job-ready skills? Try Skills Bootcamps.
If you already know you want to build new skills or move into a different type of role, there are faster ways to do it than you might think.
Skills Bootcamps are short, flexible courses that run for up to 16 weeks and focus on practical, job-ready skills. They cover areas like digital, construction, health, childcare and manufacturing.
What makes them different is that they are designed with employers in mind. Many include a guaranteed interview at the end, giving you a direct route into work or progression.
They are also built to fit around real life, with flexible and part-time options available. If you are ready to take a clear step towards a new role, this is a strong option.
Want to build confidence or learn gradually? Check out ACL Essex.
Not everyone wants to jump straight into something job-focused. Sometimes the best first step is building confidence, improving everyday skills, or trying something new in a supportive environment. That is where ACL Essex comes in.
ACL is the largest provider of adult learning in the county, offering a wide range of courses from digital skills and English and maths to creative subjects, languages and wellbeing.
You can learn online or in person, and choose something that fits your pace and lifestyle. Many courses are fully funded or part funded, especially if you are building essential skills or working towards qualifications.
Time to take the next step…
Getting started might feel unclear at first, but it is often simpler than it seems.
If you are unsure where to begin, Connect to Work can help you explore your options and build confidence. If you already know what you want to learn, you can move straight into a Skills Bootcamp or explore flexible courses through ACL Essex.
