Who’s it for?

Adults aged 19 or over who live in Essex, Southend‑on‑Sea or Thurrock and want to build new skills, retrain or move forward in their careers. They’re open to people who are employed, self‑employed, unemployed or returning to work after a break, as long as they have the right to live and work in the UK and meet residency requirements.

What is it?

Skills Bootcamps are fully funded 16‑week training programmes created to help Essex residents develop practical, sector‑specific skills in key areas like digital, construction, childcare, manufacturing, health and more. The programme is designed around real employment needs and often includes a guaranteed job interview upon completion, helping participants move quickly into a new role or advance in their current one.

What’s required?

To join a Skills Bootcamp, you simply need to meet the eligibility criteria and commit up to 16 weeks of learning. There are no fees for learners, no prior experience required for most courses, and a range of online and part‑time options make it easy to fit training around work or personal commitments.

How does it work?

Choose a Skills Bootcamp that suits your interests or career goals and enrol with the training provider delivering that course. Over the 16‑week period, you’ll complete structured, job‑focused training through a mix of online, in‑person or flexible sessions. Once finished, you’ll be offered an interview with an employer, giving you a direct pathway into work or progression in your existing job.

Stories of progress

Don't just take our word for it, hear from the local individuals who are scaling faster and thinking bigger.

“It’s been fun, it’s been a good learning curve. Everyone is really nice here, the teachers are really good — Debbie is brilliant, she’s helped me out loads. I really like tiling. I would really like to work for the local council afterwards and repair houses, and I would like to be a multi trader.”

“The staff have been great honestly, and fun to work with. They’ve been really good at guiding, especially Dave or Lee. I really, really enjoyed the joinery part of carpentry too. That was really fun.”

“The whole course has been fascinating. Blender is an amazing piece of software with so many applications, from filmmaking to interior design. I now have a much better understanding of how to present myself and how to communicate what I do.”

“If I think back to 10 weeks ago and what I am capable of now — it’s astounding. Being able to use Blender will be incredibly useful going forward, and the course has been a welcome nudge to restart my business.”
