Who’s it for?

For anyone in Essex who wants to improve their digital confidence - from those completely new to using devices to residents looking to build stronger skills for work. It supports people who need help with everyday online tasks, as well as those aiming to develop digital abilities to boost employment prospects or pursue a more digital career.

What is it?

A county‑wide initiative offering free digital skills support through in‑person Community DigiHubs, volunteer‑led sessions, and an online Digital Help Finder tool that assesses your current skills and recommends tailored services and resources. The programme helps residents learn how to use devices, access online services, stay connected and build the digital capabilities needed for both daily life and work.

What’s required?

Not much! Find and visit a Community DigiHub near you, attend a drop‑in session, or use the Digital Help Finder online. The service is free to access, and the Digital Help Finder only requires answering a few short questions to generate a personalised skills score and tailored recommendations for further support. There are no entry requirements or previous digital knowledge needed.

How does it work?

Residents can drop into a Community DigiHub to receive one‑to‑one help from trained Digital Champions on tasks such as online banking, job applications, booking appointments or using tablets and laptops. Those using the Digital Help Finder answer a short set of questions to understand their current digital skill level and receive personalised suggestions for local courses, community support and online learning. Digital Essex brings these services together to help residents grow their skills at their own pace, either in person or online.

Stories of progress

Don't just take our word for it, hear from the local individuals who are scaling faster and thinking bigger.

“It’s been fun, it’s been a good learning curve. Everyone is really nice here, the teachers are really good — Debbie is brilliant, she’s helped me out loads. I really like tiling. I would really like to work for the local council afterwards and repair houses, and I would like to be a multi trader.”

“The staff have been great honestly, and fun to work with. They’ve been really good at guiding, especially Dave or Lee. I really, really enjoyed the joinery part of carpentry too. That was really fun.”

“The whole course has been fascinating. Blender is an amazing piece of software with so many applications, from filmmaking to interior design. I now have a much better understanding of how to present myself and how to communicate what I do.”

“If I think back to 10 weeks ago and what I am capable of now — it’s astounding. Being able to use Blender will be incredibly useful going forward, and the course has been a welcome nudge to restart my business.”
