Who’s it for?

Cultural organisations, creative practitioners, artists, heritage groups, digital creatives and community cultural leaders across Essex who are seeking funding, development opportunities or strategic support. Culture Essex also serves those interested in understanding and contributing to the county’s wider cultural ecosystem.

What is it?

Essex’s dedicated cultural development platform, offering grant programmes such as the Arts and Cultural Fund, wider strategic investment, sector mapping and the county’s Cultural Strategy. Together, these resources help to promote creative activity, expand cultural participation, and drive growth and sustainability within the arts, cultural and digital industries across Essex.

What’s required?

There is no cost to explore Culture Essex or access its resources. Organisations and practitioners can review open funding calls, explore strategy documents, sign up for updates, or apply for grants when eligible. Those applying for funding must meet the criteria for each programme and submit their application through the online portal.

How does it work?

Explore the Culture Essex website to learn about available funds, strategic priorities and wider sector support. Creative organisations and practitioners can apply for grants through the Arts and Cultural Fund, engage with cultural strategy documents, access case studies and join supported initiatives. Culture Essex also works with partners - including Arts Council England and local authorities - to champion cultural growth, innovation and sustainable development across Essex’s creative landscape.

Stories of progress

Don't just take our word for it, hear from the local individuals who are scaling faster and thinking bigger.

“It’s been fun, it’s been a good learning curve. Everyone is really nice here, the teachers are really good — Debbie is brilliant, she’s helped me out loads. I really like tiling. I would really like to work for the local council afterwards and repair houses, and I would like to be a multi trader.”

“The staff have been great honestly, and fun to work with. They’ve been really good at guiding, especially Dave or Lee. I really, really enjoyed the joinery part of carpentry too. That was really fun.”

“The whole course has been fascinating. Blender is an amazing piece of software with so many applications, from filmmaking to interior design. I now have a much better understanding of how to present myself and how to communicate what I do.”

“If I think back to 10 weeks ago and what I am capable of now — it’s astounding. Being able to use Blender will be incredibly useful going forward, and the course has been a welcome nudge to restart my business.”
